Blowing out birthday candles. Throwing hats at graduation. There are many rituals that we participate in when crossing thresholds in life. For much of human history, cultures had rituals to mark a threshold we all cross: from childhood to adulthood. Referred to as ‘rites of passage,’ these included supported experiences to find one’s unique gifts and opportunities to share these with one’s community.
As we offer a New Member Ceremony, celebrating all who have chosen to become members of CUUF this year, we’ll explore the importance that rites of passage play in our lives.
