What to Expect at Fellowship Service
So what is a Unitarian Universalist service like?
While there is some variety to our services, many will find them strikingly similar to services at most any mainstream church. Click here to read a description of what fellowship services are like in most UU Churches. You will find this a good general description of our services.
We might add that our youth have an opportunity to attend Religious Education
during our services and that visiting youth are always welcome to attend RE , stay in the main service with their parents or have a parent attend their parents attend RE with them. Whatever works best for your family.
Also, if you are in the area visiting and didn’t bring any “church clothes” on vacation please don’t let that stop you from joining us. Up here in the northwoods we are pretty casual and it’s not unusual to see folks show up in their hiking clothes when the weather is warm or in their ski clothes when snow is on the ground.

Poets work to shine light on the world. The work of any artist is to perceive the extraordinary within the ordinary by changing not the world but the eyes that look. (Jayne Hirschfield).
What does living in this place, the Northwoods, mean to each of us? How do we honor all the lives around us as well as our own? We will explore how Mary Oliver, Wendell Berry, and other poets use words to transform our experiences and help us belong to a place.
John Bates is the author of ten books and a contributor to seven others, all of which focus on the natural history of the Northwoods. He has worked as a naturalist in Wisconsin’s Northwoods for 32 years, leading an array of trips and giving talks all designed to help people further understand the remarkable diversity and beauty of nature, and our place within it.

The annual CUUF All-Music Service welcomes singer/songwriter Sarina Partridge, a Minneapolis based musician, song-leader, educator, and visual artist. Sarina has a passion for connecting people with their own creativity and with community, and uses singing to help folks develop a sense of wonder for this wild world around us. Learn more about Sarina here: https://sarinapartridge.com/ She’s amazing!
Other talent will be provided by our own “CUUF Pete Seeger” — Donn Christensen, the RE children and youth, and the CUUF A Capella Ensemble, but we’d like to have more participation from the CUUF membership for the service.
To add your talent to the All-Music Service, please contact Linda Calhan at calhans@centurytel.net. Thank you for considering.
Please note: Besides leading our All-Music Service on Sunday, 4/28, Sarina Partridge will also lead a Harmony Singing Workshop

Belonging is a journey. For some it is casual, for others it is a lifelong commitment. Membership with the Chequamegon Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (CUUF) is not required for belonging, but it can be an inspiring step to move over a personal and communal threshold towards connection and reciprocal relationship. To that end, there will be a celebration and recognition for new members of the fellowship during the service
Annual Meeting
Our Annual Meeting will be held in-person directly following the worship service. The meeting is an opportunity to review the achievements and concerns of this year, elect new board members, set achievable priorities for next year, and approve the 2024-2025 budget.
Achievements during the 2023-2024 service year offer much to celebrate! The continued growth of the Religious Education (RE) program is so evident each time we sing the children to their classes. The UU Women’s group will hold its second annual retreat. The Soul Matters group continually experiences full enrollment. And there are many more rewarding and vibrant activities offered to, and by, the congregation.
Northland College's future is unknown. Depending on the results of the on going negotiations at the college, we may also discuss the challenging topic of CUUF’s valued partnership with the school. 20% of our fellowship members are directly linked to that future, both financially and professionally. Many of our RE participants are from families with one or more parents employed by the college.
The fellowship needs all of us to participate in the democratic process of governance. Our bylaws require 20% of the membership to be present for a quorum. In previous annual meetings, we have just barely that. Members will receive a packet of committee reports, board nominations, and the draft 2024-2025 budget. Everyone is encouraged to take the time to read the documents, leave comments, ask questions, and make suggestions.
Feedback is welcome on our Facebook page, at annualmeeting2024@chequamegonuuf.org or email our President, Beth Lowthian: beth@chequamegonuuf.org
